About me – A counsellor in South West London
I am a registered member MBACP (Accredited) with BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) as psychodynamic counsellor and therapist based in south-west London. I work following the codes of conduct and ethical framework of the BACP.
I’m originally from Italy and I’ve been in London since 2009. I have wide experience working with mental health in the public and private sector, and I’ve been practising as psychodynamic psychotherapist since 2013, working with individuals, adults and adolescents (16-18 years old).
In Italy I initially trained in clinical psychology and then progressed into the forensic field, following my long-lasting interest in understanding the possible links between mental health and criminology. I have experience of working in a prison and a forensic residential service for mental health and substance abuse, which gave me a great insight into this complex and challenging area.
In London I worked for Mind, an established mental health charity, which gave me the opportunity of working with clients with severe mental health issues, such as severe anxiety and depression, personality disorders, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. At the same time I progressed with my career in psychotherapy, undertaking a master course in psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy, and training in dynamic interpersonal therapy.
My approach as counsellor and therapist
My therapeutic approach is tailored to your personal needs and experiences. I believe that we all react differently to life events, based on our backgrounds, past and current experiences and relationships, personality and coping strategies. In the past few years I’ve worked with many different types of clients and in many different settings, giving me an opportunity to learn new skills to help a wider range of clients. I offer both short and long term therapy, working with adults and young adults, from 16 years. I am also able to provide therapy in Italian if required.
In my experience, the most powerful element in counselling and therapy is the relationship between you and me, as therapist. Everybody has a different way of expressing themselves and what they are going through in their lives. Clients find that talking during the sessions, even though sometimes tiring and painful, is also experienced as a relief of overwhelming feelings. Having a professional figure that listens to you actively, supporting you through your experiences and feelings, will enable you to feel safe in opening up and to make steps to improve your wellbeing.
More information about my approach can be found in the About psychotherapy section.
